TradingView to MetaTrader 5
Pine Script to MQL5 Converter
Turn a TradingView Pine Script strategy into an MQL5 Expert Advisor draft for MetaTrader 5. Run an optional platform check, then review the code, compile it and test it before any live use.
This opens the converter with your code filled in. Sign in there to convert. 3 free strategy conversions every month.
How the conversion works
1. Paste your Pine Script
Copy the strategy from TradingView (Pine v5) and paste it into the box above.
2. Choose MQL5 as the target
The converter opens with your code filled in and MQL5 selected. cTrader C# is also available as a target.
3. Run the optional platform check
For supported platforms the check shows whether MetaTrader accepts the translated output. If it is unavailable or flags an issue, review the result and the strategy before you go on.
4. Review, compile and test
Open the .mq5 file in MetaEditor, compile it, compare the signals with TradingView and test on a demo account before any live use.
What maps directly and what needs a review
Indicator names are the easy part. The bar you read, when an order is sent and how a position is closed are where converted strategies drift.
| Pine Script | MQL5 | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Inputs (input.int, input.float) | input variables | Direct |
| ta.ema, ta.sma, ta.rsi, ta.atr | Indicator handles and CopyBuffer() | Direct, check the bar you read |
| ta.crossover, ta.crossunder | Compare the last two closed bars | Needs care |
| strategy.entry, strategy.exit, strategy.close | CTrade with your own position rules | Needs care |
| request.security (higher timeframe) | Another timeframe through its own handle | Needs care |
| plot, label, table, drawings | Chart objects, if you need them | Does not convert one to one |
The full mapping, with the common mistakes and a verification checklist, is in the Pine Script to MQL5 guide.
Example: a signal-only EA you can compare with the chart
This EA reads the last two closed bars of a 10 and 30 period EMA and prints a cross. It places no trades, so you can check the signals against TradingView first. It uses shift 1 and 2, runs once per bar and reads data only after the copy succeeded.
int fastHandle = INVALID_HANDLE;
int slowHandle = INVALID_HANDLE;
datetime lastProcessedBar = 0;
int OnInit()
{
fastHandle = iMA(_Symbol, _Period, 10, 0, MODE_EMA, PRICE_CLOSE);
slowHandle = iMA(_Symbol, _Period, 30, 0, MODE_EMA, PRICE_CLOSE);
if (fastHandle == INVALID_HANDLE || slowHandle == INVALID_HANDLE)
return INIT_FAILED;
return INIT_SUCCEEDED;
}
void OnTick()
{
const datetime currentBar = iTime(_Symbol, _Period, 0);
if (currentBar == 0 || currentBar == lastProcessedBar)
return;
double fast[2], slow[2];
if (CopyBuffer(fastHandle, 0, 1, 2, fast) != 2 ||
CopyBuffer(slowHandle, 0, 1, 2, slow) != 2)
return;
lastProcessedBar = currentBar;
if (fast[0] <= slow[0] && fast[1] > slow[1]) Print("Closed-bar EMA cross up.");
if (fast[0] >= slow[0] && fast[1] < slow[1]) Print("Closed-bar EMA cross down.");
}After the conversion
- Error Fixer: paste the code and the compiler messages to get a minimal fix and an explanation of each problem.
- Code Review: check for a missing stop loss, risky lot sizes and repainting. Free during the early-bird period.
- Verification notes: what the optional platform check does and does not establish.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert Pine Script to MQL5 automatically?
Yes. The converter produces a first draft of an MQL5 Expert Advisor from a Pine Script strategy. The draft still needs a review: compile it, compare the signals with TradingView bar by bar and test it on a demo account.
Is the Pine Script to MQL5 converter free?
You can start with 3 free strategy conversions every month. See the pricing page for the paid plans.
Do I need to know MQL5?
You can start from the generated file, but you should open it in MetaEditor, fix any compile issues and understand the entry and exit rules before you test it.
Will the results match TradingView?
Not always. Price data, spread, fill assumptions and indicator start values differ between the platforms, and some Pine behaviors need explicit code in MQL5. Compare the signals first, then the trades.
Can I convert Pine Script to cTrader instead?
Yes. cTrader C# is available as a target, and the Error Fixer and Code Review tools work for both MQL5 and cTrader.
What if the generated code does not compile?
Paste the code and the compiler messages into the Error Fixer (1 credit per fix, up to 3 attempts), then run the Code Review, which is free during the early-bird period. Compiling does not prove that the trading logic is right.
